Childhood Vaccination Campaign

Childhood Vaccination Campaign

Intern with an organization that implements projects in education, health, culture, citizenship, and employment for the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian people of Kosovo.  The organization prepares activists for social change, and inspires and engages community action for human rights, dignity, and respect for diversity.

Currently, this organization operates five learning centers in 4 municipalities in Kosovo serving Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian families. Through these learning centers, they serve approximately 500 children per day. In addition to the learning centers, they have programs which aim to increase inclusion and participation in education, health care, civic life, and society in Kosovo.

Join our global health project to intern on a childhood vaccination project for children and families of underserved communities in Kosovo. Opportunities to do research on current and future needs and develop projects and grant proposals is also needed. Read more about the project below.

Interns will work on the vaccination project, funded by UNICEF, and its two components:

1. The childhood vaccination project is designed to raise awareness among the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian families of the importance of childhood vaccinations, and in doing so, is intended to increase the number of vaccinated children and their family’s access to immunization services in Kosovo.

The childhood vaccination project is implemented in 14 municipalities and includes:

  • outreach to families via online surveys and home visits by volunteer mentors and field workers for the purpose of identifying children who missed their regular childhood immunizations.

  • the training of volunteers on activities and campaigns needed to raise awareness.

  • vaccination sessions in cooperation with health facilities in the respective municipalities.

  • informative sessions within the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities and public education campaigns at the mosque, via social media, television ad campaigns, inspirational short videos, professional photos of the immunization process, and radio and television interviews.

2. COVID-19 Vaccination Project also serves to encourage Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian families of the importance of vaccination against COVID-19 beginning with 12 years of age to adults. The project encourages use of the online platform to make appointments and administers COVID vaccinations in 13 municipalities. Like the childhood vaccination project, the COVID vaccination project creates public awareness campaigns, sessions at the mosque and on radio and television, human interest stories, etc.

Isla is also looking for the following to support the work of the host organization:

  • Development of sexual reproductive health curriculum

  • Development of health curriculum related to education, health, housing, anti-discrimination, and social issues.

What are we looking for in an intern for this project?

Isla is looking for an intern with or pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in global health, public health, medical studies, communications and/or other related fields and skills. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to complete academic credit, practicum, research, or capstone project requirements towards undergraduate or graduate degree programs.
